True Love

Today in our world there is much confusion about the little word love. We use this word in many
contexts, but I believe that we have truly misused its real meaning. To love something, what does
that really mean? Well in the case of marriage, it used to mean till death do us part, but that
concept has changed. Now we hear people say that they don’t love anymore. Maybe this is the
reason that there is so much confusion today about what real love is all about. Let me carry you to
the Word of God for a few minutes. In First John 4: 18-19 it says, “There is no fear in love; but
perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
We love Him, because He first loved us.” First of all, we must understand that we learned how to
love because He first loved us. You see, it’s the love of God that makes the difference in our lives.
Now notice what John is saying here.

1. No fear in Love:
Now, as we have God’s love as our example let’s look at this point. When we love someone we
always have there best interest at heart. In Matthew 7, the Bible gives us a picture of how God loves
us, when we ask God for something we need He will not give us something that will harm us, but He
will provide our need. Also love trusts, we don’t have to fear because we can trust the one who
loves us. When two people are joined in marriage their love is seen in the trust they have for each
other. You don’t have to fear because you know that they can be trusted, just like our God.

2. Perfect Love Casteth Out Fear:
When true love enters the picture, our fears seem to melt away. Again God gives us a beautiful
picture of this type of love. In Luke 12: 31-32, “But rather seek ye the Kingdom of God; and all
these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to
give you the Kingdom.” You see, when we experience perfect love we don’t have to fear, because
that kind of love has our best interest at heart. This works in our relationships in life too.

3. Love Gives Us Belonging:
True love gives us the understanding that we belong to someone. It’s beautiful to see two people
come together in marriage and begin to see that belonging grow in their relationship. We have the
same opportunity in our relationship with the Lord. We accept His love and that sense of belonging
grows in our life everyday. You see God’s love is perfect, and He wants you to experience His love
through His Son Jesus Christ.
